Guitar Care
Everyone loves their guitars and basses, and wants to keep them in the best condition possible. A lot of that is bringing them in to Goodtime Music for a setup, especially when the seasons change.
But another big part of guitar and bass care, especially during the winter months, is humidification! Maintaining humidity in the 45-55% range is crucial for your acoustic guitar's top, fretboard, and bridge.
If those dry out, it could spell the end of the guitar, regardless of the price range.
Unfortunately, this is a big risk, when the heat starts pumping, and dries out the air in your home. Even solid body electrics can suffer from lack of humidity, drying and twisting the neck, shrinking the fretboard to expose sharp fret ends, etc.
A simple evaporative humidifier, like we use in the shop, goes a long way to preventing that from happening. Plus, it just feels better to you too!
If you're not sure what to buy, these are from the brand we use at the shop, year after year, winter after winter.
Both of these units are great because they've got built-in hygrometers that gauge the amount of humidity in the air, and adjust output according to how you've got the humidity set.
Also, they'll shut off when they've either run out of water, or they've reached the set level of humidity. Pretty cool!
